Book Review: The Heavenly Table

The Heavenly Table by Donald Ray Pollock

Published by Doubleday

This is a multiple perspective story with characters that begin totally independent from one another.  I enjoyed this book and it kept me wanting to come back for more to see which way the plot would turn next.  It was interesting seeing how the characters ultimately came together and effected each another.  But I will say, if you have delicate sensibilities you’ll need to leave them at the door or pick another book entirely.  The characters are mainly men of a rough and tumble sort.  The story was raw and abrasive.  You’ve got to be ok with outlaws, gunfights, blood, murder, and one seriously pissed off chimpanzee.  But despite all that – I did like it.  As I said, it kept me coming back to see what was next and for me that is a hallmark of a good book.  I give it four stars.

I recieved this book through Netgalley in exchange for a review.  My review will also be placed on Goodreads, Amazon, and LibraryThing.
